(INDIANAPOLIS) - A former ‘Survivor’ contestant accepted the Libertarian nomination for the gubernatorial race today.
Indiana Libertarians met this morning and voted to appoint Rupert Boneham as a candidate.
Additionally, Boneham announced Brad Klopfenstein, the past executive director for the Libertarian Party of Indiana, as his running mate.
"I'm honored," said Boneham in a news release statement. "We've travelled across the state, meeting with Libertarians, and today they gave their approval to my message of shrinking the government, creating empowerment programs out of entitlements, and leveling the playing field for small businesses."
Boneham was raised in Kokomo, Ind. and now resides in Indianapolis. He was a popular contestant on CBS's 'Survivor' and awarded a "Fan Favorite" prize during his season. Boneham is involved in charity work and created Rupert's Kids, an organization that helps at-risk youths.
Boneham was the only declared candidate for governor on the Libertarian list. However, Indiana Libertarians approved Boneham as the party candidate by an "overwhelming yes."
"Rupert was well received everywhere we visited," said Evan McMahon, Boneham's campaign manager. "Everyone knows Rupert the celebrity, and our party members have gotten to know Rupert the candidate."
