(INDIANAPOLIS) - Posing as a tornado relief worker landed a western Indiana man in jail on multiple charges, Indiana State Police officials said Thursday.
Troopers initially arrested 53-year-old Gerald Scott Flint, of Brazil, Ind. on drug possession charges, but investigators said they later determined he swindled people out of cash and donations he said were for tornado victims.
Flint is suspected of driving around in a blue pickup truck with a decal on the side for a phony relief organization called Volunteer Medics Worldwide. ISP troopers believe he hinted to people that he was working for Homeland Security. He wasn't working for Homeland Security or another reputable organization.
Troopers believe Flint was collecting items and money in Clark and Scott counties. He's facing preliminary charges of possession of a legend drug, impersonating a public servant and theft.
Authorities aren't sure how many people Flint may have taken donations from and urge anyone who donated to him to contact Indiana State Police at 812-246-5424 or 800-872-6743.
