Infant Suffers Severe Burns In Car Fire

Last updated on Tuesday, March 20, 2012

(EVANSVILLE) - Evansville police say a 9-month-old and his 4-year-old brother were inside a car when it caught fire.

It happened on 3300 block of Park St. at 10:15 Tuesday morning. No word yet what caused the fire, but police say they are not investigating it as "suspicious." We are told that the car was shut off when the fire started.

The father went inside the home to pick up the children's grandfather, when he came out the car was on fire.

A 4-year-old was able to escape the burning car unharmed, but the father had to rescue the 9-month-old, grabbing the car seat and suffering some minor burns.

The 9-month-old has been taken to a local hospital with what we are told are life-threatening injuries.
