Ben Davis Band Director Resigns Amid Allegations

Last updated on Thursday, March 8, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS)(RTV6)- The Ben Davis High School band director has resigned after allegations he had inappropriate communications with students.

In a letter sent home to parents, Principal Joel McKinney said he had received information and investigated reports of inappropriate communications between Head Band Director John Papandria and students at the high school.

"My investigation uncovered communications between Mr. Papandria and students that are not reflective of the expectations we have for our staff or our community," McKinney said.

Papandria resigned from his position as Wayne Township Schools officials were beginning the firing process, a district representative said.

McKinney did not give details about the nature of Papandria's communication with students, but allegations surrounding the accusations spread on Wednesday, RTV6's Ericka Flye reported.

"People who are in band were upset that he had resigned," student Corrina Rettig said.

Rettig's mother said she was glad the school launched an investigation to get to the bottom of what happened.

"The fact of the matter is that it's being addressed. That is a good thing," parent Amanda Rettig said.

Papandria is not commenting on the case.
