(INDIANAPOLIS) - Secretary of State Charlie White was found guilty of 6 of 7 voter fraud-related charges and faces removal from office and prison time.
A Hamilton County jury returned the verdict against White about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning after deliberating for more than 13 hours.
White was found guilty of lying about where he lived when he registered to vote in the May 2010 primary. Prosecutors say he used his ex-wife's address instead of a condo he had with his fiancée to keep his $1,000 a month Fishers Town Council salary despite moving out of his council district.
State law bars anyone convicted of a felony from remaining in office.
Democrats say they'll try this week to have their losing candidate Vop Osili installed to replace White.
A civil judge has ordered the state to declare Osili the winner, saying White was ineligible.
White's chief deputy Jerry Bonnet was appointed by Governor Mitch Daniels to serve as interim until White can be replaced.
