New Obama For America Headquarters In Indianapolis

Last updated on Friday, February 10, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Democratic elected officials and volunteers gathered at the new Obama For America headquarters at 16th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue Thursday night to kick off their campaign to re-elect President Barack Obama.

Campaign officials said their mission was to get volunteers fired up to make phone calls and knock on doors.

"It's important so that people feel like they have a voice," volunteer Linda Porter said. "Indiana surprised everybody the last time, and I think there's another big surprise coming."

Republican supporters said they wanted to ensure that Obama doesn't win Indiana, but the President said he wouldn't write off a state.

Andre Carson, Indiana's 7th District congressman, gave a rally cry to Hoosier Obama supporters.

"I discourage anybody who wants to even take the chance of falling asleep on the great Hoosier state. Indiana's absolutely a player," Carson said. "We know that (Mitt) Romney's campaign is setting up shop here. I think the OFA effort is very formidable, and I think you'll see an Obama presence in the months to come."

Volunteer Andrea Smith said she wanted to be a part of the momentum.

"I'm just focused as a volunteer. I'm really working to understand what we have achieved and why it's important that we continue to move forward," Smith said.

OFA volunteers said they plan to go door to door drumming up support for the president, from now until November.
