(UNDATED) - Diet soda may be even worse for you than previously reported.
A new study in the Journal of General Internal Medicine found that people who drink diet soda on a daily basis are 44-percent more likely to have a heart attack or stroke than non diet soda drinkers.
Adrienne DeAngelo of St. Vincent Women's Hospital says the study was conducted with 69-year olds. She feels people who drink diet sodas don't get the recommended amount of water, which could lead to more heartattacks and strokes. She says the 69 year olds most likely didn't have the best eating habits prior to the study.
Deangelo says it's still a good idea to drink diet soda over regular soda, but only if you get the proper amount of daily water intake. She says the diet soda should be looked at as a "reward", but not to drink too many since that can lead to dehydration.
