(INDIANAPOLIS)(WISH) - March is right around the corner which means spring break. However, experts say travelers should book now if they plan to fly, as airline ticket prices are going up.

Prices for some airlines have already jumped because of high fuel costs. Travel experts say fuel costs combined with fewer flights, booking flights for spring break is a lot more expensive.

Jet fuel costs make up about one-third of an airline's budget and crude oil prices continue to rise. Jet Blue and Southwest Airlines have already raised some of their flight costs by around $10 roundtrip. Although it's not much now, travel experts say if travelers want to go on a getaway for spring break, but don't have flights purchased, get it now.

"The main thing that people really want to keep in mind is what they should be is very very flexible in the times," says Alex Kutin, owner of Travel Leaders in Indianapolis. "If they say they want to leave here on Saturday morning at 7 o'clock in the morning chances are that may not happen."

Kutin says most of his clients booked their spring break trip by Jan. 1 and a popular destination is Mexico because of the many all-inclusive resorts.

Flights to Mexico are pricey. To fly to Cancun from Indianapolis the first week of April, the cheapest is $958 a person roundtrip.

If flights are just too expensive, Kutin recommends driving to a warmer climate like New Orleans. But gas prices are around $3.47 a gallon so making a staycation might be the best idea yet.
