Fans Sound Off On Peyton's Status

Last updated on Thursday, February 2, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Super Bowl spotlight has been on Indianapolis for several days, but much of the talk in the sports world has been about Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, instead of the big game.

Manning came out Tuesday to deflect a Yahoo! Sports report that his recovery from neck surgeries wasn't going well and that his return to the playing field was unlikely.

The mood of Colts fans seems to have shifted a bit over the last few weeks, amid uncertainty over Manning's health and upheaval regarding the future of Indianapolis' team overall.

At first, most fans were resolute that Manning be kept, regardless of the franchise's plan to draft Andrew Luck with the first pick of the upcoming NFL draft and despite the fact that he will be get a $28 million bonus if the Colts keep him past March 8.

In recent weeks, public opinion seems to have shifted some toward the idea that the Colts shouldn't keep Manning and should start fresh with a new QB, keeping in mind that Manning may not be able to play anyway.

Others think the story should just go away, and the focus should be placed on the New York Giants and New England Patriots as they aim for a Super Bowl victory.
