Ex-ISP Commander Gets 10-Year Sentence

Last updated on Tuesday, February 28, 2012

(ELKHART) - A former Indiana State Police post commander has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing more than $91,000 in state money.

The Elkhart Truth reported that an Elkhart Superior Court judge sentenced former Indiana Toll Road post commander Dallard Tackett to 20 years in prison on Monday, with 10 years suspended.

Tackett, 60, also faces 10 years of probation after he's released from prison and must pay $91,397 in restitution. He had faced a maximum sentence of 50 years.

Tackett, a 31-year veteran of the department, retired as commander of the Toll Road post near Elkhart last year when state police began investigating him.

Authorities said he took money intended for the state police and put it in his own personal accounts.
