Evansville Area Firefighter Dies After Fire Truck Crashes

(Vanderburgh County) - A firefighter with the McCutchanville Township Fire Department in Vanderburgh County was killed Wednesday night in a single vehicle accident.

According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office, the engine was returning to its station after being dispatched for a call around 8:00 p.m. Central Time.

For unknown reasons the engine left the roadway, rolling onto its side sliding into a ditch.

The driver of the engine, 24-year old Firefighter Brandon Scott Cason of Evansville was transported to an Evansville area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Passenger 18-year old Firefighter Jeremy Ryan Tighe of Evansville died on scene. The exact cause of death will be determined at a later date by the Vanderburgh County Coroner.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office says there is no eviddence that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, however blood tests were taken at the hospital for toxicology testing.
