(COLUMBUS) - A Columbus man who was traveling with the makings of a methamphetamine lab in his vehicle was sentenced Tuesday to six years in prison with two years suspended.
Bryan David Gater, 34, was stopped for a traffic violation in March during which police found the drug-related items inside his vehicle.
He was charged with manufacturing meth, a Class B felony, and operating an illegal drug lab and possession of meth, both Class D felonies.
Gater pleaded guilty to the illegal drug lab charge in exchange for prosecutors dropping the other charges.
Bartholomew Circuit Court Judge Stephen Heimann found circumstances that aggravated Gater's sentence, including his criminal history, the fact that he was on parole at the time of the drug lab offense, that Gater had served on probation previously and had it revoked and that he was in need of treatment best provided in prison.
Gater's criminal history included five convictions. The drug-lab conviction was his third felony.
He ordered Gater to serve the two suspended years on probation.
