(INDIANAPOLIS) - A 16-year-old Carmel girl is recovering from a seizure after using a synthetic drug called Spice, and Indiana lawmakers are working to ensure other teens aren’t harmed by using the substance.
Spice has become popular among Central Indiana teens, which prompted a House committee to unanimously vote in favor of a law that would ban all synthetic drugs in Indiana.
Spice has also raised concerns from addiction specialists.
"Everybody is different. Everybody's chemical and biological makeup is different. It might affect you differently than it affects me. So, you're really playing Russian roulette when you're putting any type of substance in your body," said Rachelle Gardner with Fairbanks Treatment Center.
The bill to ban synthetic drugs and their variations will next go to the full House for a vote.
