(INDIANAPOLIS) - A 22-year-old woman from Brown County is in critical condition after a hit-and-run accident Saturday evening in Indianapolis.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Troy Avenue and Keystone Avenue at approximately 7:15 p.m.

Police said the victim, 22-year-old Tara Sanders, was riding a scooter down the intersection when she was struck by a vehicle that left the scene following the accident. Sanders was rushed to Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

Sanders' sister said no witnesses have come forward with information.

Sanders was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. She suffered bleeding on the brain, a damaged spleen, a broken leg and a broken rib. Sanders' sister said she is recovering.

The suspect's vehicle is described as a newer, white four-door passenger car with custom ground effects and high tail lights. Investigators said the vehicle should have right rear passenger side damage and possible red paint on it from the scooter.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the IMPD Hit/Run Unit at (317) 327-6549 or Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-8477.
