Body Discovered In Cave

Last updated on Tuesday, February 7, 2012

(CRAWFORD COUNTY) - Authorities say a body discovered in a cave at a state forest along the Ohio River may be a man reported missing four months ago.

Conservation officers received a call at 3:50 p.m. Sunday from people who had been in the cave and found the body.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources spokesman Phil Bloom says items found near the body in Breathing Hole cave at Harrison-Crawford State Forest appear to be similar to items that 25-year-old Kevin Eve purchased the day he went missing.

The Georgetown man was last seen Oct. 1 and his car was found in the state forest along the Ohio River two days later.

The Crawford County coroner will determine the identity of the body and cause of death.

It was difficult to remove the body from the cave according to Conservation Officer Jim Hash, "there were some very small passages in the cave that were difficult to navigate. The removal of the unidentified man was very demanding."

The Breathing Hole cave has a 154 foot drop at the entrance. The body was removed from the cave at 6:18 p.m. Monday.

Indiana Conservation Officers were assisted by National Cave Rescue Commission volunteers, Leavenworth Volunteer Fire Department, American Red Cross and the Crawford County Emergency Management.
