3 Finalists Named For Indiana Supreme Court

Last updated on Friday, February 24, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis attorney, the governor’s former lawyer and a state appellate court judge are the finalists to fill a vacancy on the Indiana Supreme Court being left by the retirement of the state’s chief justice.

The Judicial Nominating Commission named the three finalists after more than four hours of deliberations Thursday following interviews with seven candidates.

The court said the finalists were Indiana Judicial Center director Jane Seigel, former governor's counsel Mark Massa and Indiana Court of Appeals Judge Cale Bradford.

Gov. Mitch Daniels will select a new justice from among the three finalists within 60 days. Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard plans to retire in March.

The commission will select the new chief justice from the high court after the vacancy is filled.
