(UNDATED) - The weather this winter season has been mild compared to years past, and some people and cities are saving dollars with the rising temperatures.
After the winter we faced last year as far as snow, ice, and cold, what we've seen much this year.
It may be hard to remember scenes of thick ice and heavy snow that the area woke up to last January.
The difference a year makes. For the city street department, it's looks like dollar signs.
No budget strains yet, since they haven't sent much salt to roadways or even plowed much snow. Normally department see a snow or two in Decembers, but that didn't happen this year.
Temperatures are even higher. Last week highs were above 50 degrees, compared to last year, where we rarely even hit 40 degrees. Parts of the month of January saw highs as low as 15 degrees and the lower.
That's putting money back in your pocket as well, with lower heating bills. So for families, it may mean a little more in your pocket book.
For the city, it puts money back into theirs as well. Money is staying in city budgets.
Only time will tell what the rest of January will bring.
