(NOBLESVILLE) - Political stakes are high if Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White goes to trial.

Jury selection begins today in Noblesville for White's charges that he lied about where he lived when he registered to vote in the May 2010 primary.

Democrats contend he lied in order to keep his seat on the Fishers town council. White denies any wrong doing and says he had an unusual living arrangement in which he stayed with his ex-wife while campaigning instead of moving in with his fiancee at a condo they purchased before they were married.

A conviction could oust White from office and prison time. The trial could last up to three weeks.
