Mom Catches Burglar On Video Camera

Last updated on Thursday, January 26, 2012

(GREENWOOD) - A stay-at-home mom with a video camera is credited with helping catch the burglar who broke into her neighbor’s home.

Greenwood homeowner Eric Worden has been the victim of three burglaries in as many months.

"After the second one, I kind of figured I'd put up a camera just to try to help catch whoever is around here," he said.

He also warned nearby neighbors about the crimes, including stay-at-home mom Alexis Rogers.

Last week, the vigilance paid off when Rogers spotted something suspicious.

"I was taking a laundry basket from the laundry room to the front of the house, and as I walked past my front dining room window, I noticed a blue car sitting out there," Rogers said. "I'd never seen this car before."

Rogers called police and proceeded to take pictures and video of a man walking in and out of Worden's home.

"I couldn't believe how nonchalant this individual was," Rogers said of the burglar. "He just played it off like he was meant to be in the neighborhood taking things from my neighbor's home."

Police quickly arrested Jason Michael Carr, 33, in connection with the burglary. They said he broke in through the back door and took mostly electronics, including a TV and a Wii gaming system.

The burglary was also caught on tape by Worden's security camera, police said.

"I'm really thankful that we have good neighbors," Worden said. "Good neighbors are hard to come by, and it's nice to know that we have some."

Rogers said she was glad she could help stop the break-ins.

"Sometimes this is what neighbors have to do to fight back," she said.

Carr was being held Tuesday in the Johnson County Jail.
