(COLUMBIA CITY) - Authorities say a man spent more than eight hours trapped waist-deep in soybeans in a northeastern Indiana grain silo before he was rescued by firefighters and local farmers.

The Ag Plus worker was cleaning the silo at a company facility about 30 miles west of Fort Wayne when he fell and became mired in the silo's store of soybeans.

Fort Wayne firefighters say the worker's fall at the site near Columbia City wasn't significant, but the pressure exerted by the soybeans kept him from being pulled out.

Rescuers placed a tube around the man to relieve the pressure of the soybeans and local farmers supplied grain vacuuming equipment to lower the level of soybeans in the silo until rescuers freed the man.
