(INDANAPOLIS) - Indiana ranks among the nation’s top 10 states for education policies in a new report that lauds the state for making more progress than any other over a two-year period.
The report released Wednesday by the National Council on Teacher Quality gives Indiana an overall grade of C+, up from a D. Only four states received higher grades.
The research and policy group cited a new teacher evaluation system that links student performance with teacher pay as one reason for the improved grade.
The Indiana Legislature last year passed a law requiring teachers to be evaluated annually, and those in the bottom two of four categories would not be eligible for automatic pay raises.
The first evaluations will come at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.
