(INDIANAPOLIS) - Seventy members of an Indiana National Guard unit attended an emotional farewell ceremony with relatives before departing for what could be a more than yearlong mission to Afghanistan.

The Indianapolis Star reports Sunday's ceremony in Indianapolis for members of the 76th Infantry Brigade was emotion-packed. The soldiers will undergo final training at central Indiana's Camp Atterbury before heading to Afghanistan for a mission lasting up to 400 days.

Twenty-five-year-old unit member Ashlie Ryan of Middletown says she tells her two children that "angels are watching over" her.

But she concedes that she's worries about what might happen to her in the turbulent nation.

The unit headed for training the same week four Indiana National Guardsmen killed January 6 in Afghanistan are scheduled to be laid to rest.
