(INDIANAPOLIS) - With the Super Bowl just weeks from now, we’re down to four teams that could head to Indianapolis - the Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots.
When game week arrives, some free services will be available that visitors and residents alike can take advantage of.
For instance, city buses will be free. But there are other ways to get around that won't cost a dime, either.
Circle Center Mall will become a hub for Simon Malls. So if you want to go from Greenwood Park Mall to downtown, you will just take one of their free shuttles.
They're still working on the details of specific dates and times, but free shuttles will go from Circle Centre to Greenwood Park, the Fashion Mall at Keystone Crossing and Clay Terrace in Carmel.
IndyGo buses will also be free from Thursday, February 2nd through Super Bowl Sunday.
That's for all fixed regular bus lines, with the only exception the Green Line from the Airport to Downtown, which will still cost $7 each way.
IndyGo is unsure how many people will take advantage of the service, but they added 10,000 extra riders in just one day when they offered free service last June.
They are hoping visitors and Indianapolis residents will take advantage of the buses. "We have the capacity," says IndyGo CEO Mike Terry. "We hope that people find us a nice convenience. I would rather take a bus than driving down and trying to find a place to park and contributing to more congestion."
A $150-thousand federal transportation grant will cover IndyGo's expenses for those four days. Their schedule and routes won't change, with the exception of some buses in the downtown area which may be detoured by Super Bowl traffic patterns.
Regular IndyGo riders will enjoy free bus fair but Terry hopes to attract others to mass transit.
"New riders - hopefully," he anticipates, along with "volunteers who are coming down."
Terry also hopes some visitors will find the free buses convenient to go to some of the other attractions like the Children's Museum and Indianapolis Museum of Art, or to ride up to Broad Ripple.
