Columbus Police Dog Nabs Man Running From Police

Last updated on Thursday, January 5, 2012

(COLUMBUS) - A police dog nabbed a Columbus man late Monday after the man led police on a chase through downtown Columbus.

Kenneth Eagle Palanton, 20, jumped out of his vehicle while it was still moving Monday night in the 2100 block of California Street when police dog Blitz got a hold of him, police said.

Palanton led officers on a chase after Columbus Police Patrolmen Toby Combest and Jimmy Myers attempted to stop him for a traffic violation at 9:45 p.m. near Seventh Street and Pleasant Grove, Columbus Police Lt. Joe Richardson said.

He said Palanton refused to stop and led the chase through downtown until he jumped from his vehicle.

Palanton allegedly tried to force his way into a home in the 2100 block of California Street, but Myers deployed Blitz to stop him.

Palanton was treated for minor injuries at Columbus Regional Hospital and booked into Bartholomew County Jail. He faces preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness.
