(INDIANAPOLIS) - A bill has been introduced that would require all Indiana Schools to start at the same day after Labor Day. Similar bills have failed in the past, but Senator Mike Delph, a Republican, from Carmel says he is confident he will have success in passing this bill.
He says classrooms are too hot in early August. It is one of several reasons why he is proposing the bill. He says students should enjoy their summer and the holiday with their families.
The bill, if passed, would not be effective until the 2014 school year. The bill also includes two other components requiring cursive writing be taught in private and public schools and the restoring of single-class basketball.
He says the public will hear more next week about the financial benefits of a statewide school start date.
