Bad Habits Increase Serious Rists for Night-Shift Workers

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Bad eating habits and a lack of sleep increase the risks for serious health problems for night-shift workers because of their tendency to work overnight hours, medical experts said.

Doctors said poor eating habits and a lack of exercise contribute to sleep disorders.
Fast food and workplace vending machines are also part of the problem, which has prompted some employers to offer healthy alternatives for their employees.

Increasing weight causes increasing problems with sleeping. There is an increase in diabetes and an increase in high blood pressure. All these things are risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

Experts said health risks are much lower for workers who are required to stay physically fit.

Doctors advised night-shift workers to choose healthier diets and exercise to avoid an unproductive workforce in the future.
