(COLUMBUS) - An Avon woman who called police because she said her car was out of gas on Interstate 65 was arrested after driving away from an officer who stopped to help her.
Linda L. Little, 50, of Avon, is accused of driving under the influence of a controlled was out of gas on I-65 about six miles south of the Indiana 46 Columbus exit, according to Indiana State Police.
When State Trooper Korry Clark responded, he found Little slumped over her car's console sleeping. Clark woke her, and she said she had run out of gas and had no money, according to police.
Clark was concerned Little had a medical issue and was going to try to contact her relatives to see if they would come to assist, but Little started her vehicle and drove away when Clark went back to his car.
The officer pulled Little over three miles north on the interstate, and he began
to suspect she was under the influence of drugs, police said.
Little failed the field sobriety tests, and Clark found prescription pills in Little's purse, he said.
She refused to submit to a drug testing and was taken to Bartholomew County Jail, where she was booked in on preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
