(CROWN POINT)(AP) - An attorney for a northwest Indiana woman accused of locking her son in a dog kennel says she is innocent.
Crown Point lawyer Walter J. Alvarez said authorities should be more skeptical of a 14-year-old boy's claims that 40-year-old Tina Graham and her fiance beat, caged and starved him.
Graham was released from jail Thursday, but a Lake County jail officer said her 55-year-old fiance Vernon Widner was still being held on $70,000 bond Friday.
The Lowell couple is charged with 16 felony counts including criminal confinement, battery, intimidation, neglect of a dependent and strangulation.
The boy allegedly told police told police he ran away from home to escape beatings, nights in a dog kennel and threats with knives and a gun.
