Last updated on Wednesday, December 14, 2011

(FISHERS) - A 17-year-old girl from Fishers is at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, recovering from what police believe was an accidental gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators say a 15-year-old boy was handling a gun in the backseat of a car, it discharged and the bullet passed through the front passenger seat, hitting the girl, grazing the driver's knee and lodging in the glove box.

The girl was dropped off at the hospital. The driver and others in the car left.

The boy with the gun was arrested for criminal recklessness, dangerous possession of a firearm and possession of a handgun without a permit.
