Richland- Taylor Fire Department Seeks Grant For New Station

(SCOTLAND) - The Richland-Taylor Fire Department in Scotland is seeking a state grant to assist in the construction of a new fire station/community center building.

Matt Sward, of Southern Indiana Development Commission of Loogootee, explained that a grant up to $500,000 will be sought.

The grant will require about a $5,600 local match.

The grant proposal is due Feb. 10 with the formal application submitted to state officials by April 20.

Richland-Taylor Fire Chief Randy Baker said a larger station is needed especially with the department being located as the closest fire responder to Interstate 69/231 interchange and the WestGate at Crane Tech Park area.

Baker said his department is currently located in a small, cramped building. A new building would allow the department to increase its fleet to include an aerial truck and larger rescue/ambulance unit.
