(BURNETTSVILLE) (AP) - A sister of the northern Indiana man who died after his pet pit bull bit into his jugular vein says he loved the dog that he had owned for four or five years.

Shirley Silkey, of Sand Springs, Okla., said that 58-year-old Joseph Hines of Burnettsville always loved his dogs. He never married or had children.

She says she doesn't know if the pit bull named Honey was aggressive. She ordered the dog to be put down.

White County Coroner Matt Westerhouse says Hines died December 3, two days before his body was found, from a bite to his right jugular vein. Hines also had bite wounds on his forearms and an ankle.

Burnettsville is about 70 miles north of Indianapolis
