(COLUMBUS) - A Columbus man was sentenced Monday to seven and a half years in prison with five years suspended for a robbery in which he stole a handgun.
Robert Ermon Williams, 38, robbed the residence at a Columbus home in July. He was charged with burglary, a Class B felony, and robbery, a Class C felony.
He pleaded guilty to the robbery charge in exchange for prosecutors dropping the other charge and a petition to revoke his probation in another case, according to court records.
Factors that aggravated the sentence, include that Williams was on probation at the time of the offense, he has violated his probation before, he has a history of criminal convictions and treatment outside of prison has not been effective.
Williams was ordered to serve the suspended five years on probation and to enroll in and complete a drug-treatment program.
Williams must pay $1,140.88 in restitution at a rate of $25 per week beginning six months after his probation starts.
