Alva Sibbit Jr. Named Interim Superintendent At Cannelton Schools

Last updated on Tuesday, December 27, 2011

(CANNELTON) - Alva Sibbitt Jr., who left his job as school superintendent in Paoli and then was dismissed before beginning a job as Mitchell’s school leader, has been chosen for an interim superintendent’s post at Cannelton schools.

Sibbit will be a consultant, employed by Aministration Assistance. They provide schools with interim superintendent jobs and do collective bargaining. Currently he is acting as a financial adviser for the school and now will be a part-time superintendent until June.

The Mitchell school board canceled its contract with Sibbitt earlier this year before he had actually begun work there. Sibbitt had left Paoli Community Schools late last year after having served as superintendent there since the 1970s.

The Mitchell board's decision followed Sibbitt's arrest by Indiana State Police during a traffic stop on Dec. 9, 2010, in Paoli. He is alleged to have rammed the Paoli Community Schools van he was driving into a parked patrol car, according to Indiana State Police Trooper Robert Lambert.

Sibbitt was charged with resisting law enforcement, a Class D felony; intimidation, a Class D felony; resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor; criminal recklessness, a Class A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor.

Sibbitt pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
