(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana State Department of Health says it's taking steps to curb domestic violence after a survey showed one in five women in Indiana have been raped and that more than two in five have experienced sexual violence other than rape.

One in four Indiana men also report sexual violence other than rape.

The state agency said the findings come from the 2010 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey recently released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This was the first year of the survey, and health officials say results will be used to track trends in sexual violence, stalking and intimate partner violence.

The state agency says it's convening a sexual violence prevention council and providing funding to groups working to prevent sexual violence.
