(UNDATED) - There's been talk recently about how to connect the new U. S. 231 when it's built in Dubois County with the new I-69 currently under construction in southwest Indiana.

A coalition has been formed for that very reason. One idea is making a section of U. S. 231 into an interstate itself.

The new U.S. 231 Coalition has been researching the idea of creating a new interstate corridor. The proposed interstate is being called I-67 at this time.

The proposed new I-67 would ultimately run from Nashville, Tennessee to a future extension of I-69 west of Jasper.

Governor Daniels who has put construction of the new I-69 in southwest Indiana into what he calls a 'fast-track' mode says he's open to the I-67 idea and recently talked with local officials about it.

The new I-67 would include the William H. Natcher Parkway that runs through Kentucky and the new four-lane U.S. 231 in Spencer County. I-67 would continue along an improved U.S. 231 in southern Dubois County and then veer west to connect to I-69.

State Representative Sue Ellspermann of Ferdinand is a member of the U.S. 231 Coalition. She says the new I-67 would alleviate the amount of traffic currently using I-65 from Nashville to Indianapolis.
