(SHELBY COUNTY) - A Shelby County man defied serious odds to win big money from the Hoosier Lottery twice in just over a year’s time.
Glenn Brown of Flat Rock beat odds of 1 in more than 2 million to win a $200,000 prize on the Hoosier Lottery's Mix & Match game on Nov. 4,
On a similar Friday night 13 months ago, Oct. 22, 2010, the double-lucky man beat the same odds to win the same prize on the same game at the same lucky retailer.
Both Brown's winning tickets came from Speedway at I-65 & U.S. 31 in Taylorsville.
The most notable similarity is that both tickets were random quick picks, which means he won with two random sets of different numbers. The odds of winning a top prize in the Mix & Match game are 1:2.1million.
Brown said the experience of winning a second time felt like déjà-vu. "It happened almost the same way," said Brown.
"I was sitting in the recliner checking my ticket, just like the first time. I turned to my wife and said 'I think I won $200,000.' She didn't believe me either time."
Brown purchased and renovated a home on four acres with his initial winnings. This time he says he plans to pay off his car and use his winnings to "work towards retirement."
Brown plans to continue playing the Hoosier Lottery as he always has, spending a few dollars a week on Mix & Match and Hoosier Lotto draw games. The twice-lucky man says the third time is a charm and he hopes to move on to bigger and better prizes.
In fiscal year 2010, the Hoosier Lottery generated $190 million in net income which was used to reduce the motor vehicle excise tax for drivers and also supported the pension funds for retired Indiana teachers, police and firefighters.
Player prizes for the fiscal year totaled $456 million and $51 million was earned by retailers on the sale of Hoosier Lottery products. Since its inception in 1989, Hoosier Lottery has produced nearly $4 billion in net income for the citizens of Indiana, nearly $1 billion in commissions and bonuses for participating Indiana retailers, and has paid out more than $8.3 billion in player prizes.
