DNR Says Hunters May Have Hard Time Hunting Rabbit, Quail, Pheasant

Last updated on Tuesday, November 1, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS)(AP) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says hunters may have to work a little harder this year than in the past to bag rabbits, quail or pheasants.

The DNR says small game populations across Indiana have steadily declined from highs 50 years ago due to a decrease in habitat. DNR biologists says hunters during the 2010-2011 hunting season harvested an estimated 246,000 rabbits, 19,500 quail, and 9,300 wild pheasants.

Rabbit, quail and pheasant season opens Friday.
