(UNDATED) - Indiana Eighth District Congressman Larry Buschon (R-Evansville) says his office is doing everything within its power to curtail the planned closure of small, hometown post offices throughout Indiana and across the country.

He is also working to make sure the vital regional mail distribution centers, like the one in Terre Haute, remains open - despite an earlier announcement by U.S. Postal Service officials.

Buschon, who grew up in a small town says these post offices are the lifeblood of the communities. The U.S. Postal Service announced in July it was studying 3,653 local offices, branches and stations for possible closing.

Since that announcement, Owensburg, Koleen and Scotland post offices have been closed for one reason or another.

On Nov. 3, he drafted a letter of protest to U.S. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe.
Buschon also said he's opposed to the ending of Saturday mail delivery and will voice his concerns to his colleagues in Washington and with United State Postal Service officials.
