(TERRE HAUTE) - A celebration is being planned to mark the development of Coca-Cola's iconic bottle.

The bottle designed by workers at Root Glass Co. of Terre Haute won a Coca-Cola competition in 1915 and has been used by the soft drink giant since.

Coca-Cola is sponsoring the Nov. 21 event in downtown Terre Haute as part of its 125th anniversary celebration. Coke's holiday caravan will be illuminated by 25,000 lights and include the Coca-Cola Polar Bear and distribution of a commemorative bottle.

Coca-Cola spokeswoman Hayley Johns says Terre Haute is among the places and people that the company is recognizing for playing major roles in its history. A Coke bottle display also is being dedicated this week at the city's visitors center.
