Child Abuse National Epidemic

(UNDATED) - Child abuse is one of the fastest growing crimes in Indiana; in fact, there are more than 60-thousand reported cases of child abuse in Indiana each year.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services calls child abuse in this country, a national epidemic.

Dubois County prosecuting attorney Kevin Crouse says if you suspect child abuse, call authorities right away.

That number is to the Indiana Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-800-800-5556.

Spencer County prosecutor Kelly Johnson also says if you suspect or know of any child being abuse do not hesitate to report it.

She says there could be more than one incident of the abuse, or worse yet, more than one victim. The Indiana Civil Rights Commission says a new study shows that forty-eight percent of US middle and high school students have suffered some form of sexual harassment and abuse during the 2010-2011 school year.
