(MORGANTOWN) - A former bank manager of the People's State Bank branch in Morgantown has been charged with stealing approximately $62,000 from the bank.
Juli A. Magness, 45, Morgantown, has been charged with one count of theft as a class D felony.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Indiana State Police Detective Kevin Getz, the alleged theft began about four years ago.
Getz said Magness had admitted to bank officials she had needed money because of her divorce. Magness allegedly admitted to bank officials there was a shortage of roughly $60,000. She allegedly told the officials she needed money for house and car payments.
The bank did an in-depth audit and determined there was $62,025 missing.
Bank officials interviewed other employees in the bank branch. Two employees admitted they knew money was missing and that Magness was the person who took it. A third did not admit to officials any knowledge of the thefts. Bank officials told Getz the four employees' employment with the bank had been terminated.
Of the four employees, only Magness has been charged with a crime. Her case is pending in Morgan County Superior Court III.
Bank officials were not available for comment in time for this story.
