Sherman-Minton Bridge To Remain Closed Another Six Months

Last updated on Monday, October 3, 2011

(NEW ALBANY) - The Sherman Minton bridge will remain closed for another six months.

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels says it will take six months and $20 million dollars to repair the bridge, which was closed three weeks ago after inspectors found a crack in a support beam.

To fix the bridge, three million pounds of new steel plating will be bolted along the entire length of the structure. Daniels says the repairs will give the Sherman Minton another 20 years of life.

The states of Indiana and Kentucky will split the $20 million cost.
