Woman Runs Into Store, Begs For Help Following Incident

Last updated on Wednesday, September 14, 2011

(PORTAGE) - A 55-year-old Kansas man is behind bars in Porter County after police said he tied an adult female relative to a chair and held her against her will in a Portage motel room.

Prosecutors formally charged Martin Jonassen Tuesday with felony confinement and misdemeanor battery, after the 21-year-old woman ran naked into a liquor store next to the motel on U.S. 20 and begged for help.

Liquor store employees say the woman grabbed and hung tightly onto cooler doors as Jonassen tried to pull her out of the store. They called Portage Police, who blocked Jonassen's car right as he was beginning to back out of the parking lot.
