Victory Statue To Return To Monument Circle

Last updated on Friday, September 2, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Victory statue that sits atop monument circle in downtown Indianapolis comes home today.

The statue came down April 22nd for restoration and repair that was conducted at Stout Field. Victory is expected to leave Stout Field at 9am and arrive on Monument Circle around 10am. Once downtown, the statue will be place on the ground at the base of the monument on the northwest quadrant.

Although Victory will be contained within the steel cage that will be used to lift her back on top of the monument and surrounded by fencing, the public is still invited to get a rare up-close view of her.

The statue will remain on the ground throughout the holiday weekend. Crews will lift Victory back up to her permanent residence on top of the soldiers and sailors monument at 6am Tuesday morning. Officials estimate it will take about an hour for victory to be lifted and secured back atop the monument.
