Last updated on Friday, September 16, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Eastbound traffic on Interstate 74 near Post Road was blocked for more than an hour Thursday because a semi pulling a trailer full of potatoes caught fire.

INDOT said it expected traffic to be blocked for a while. Traffic was backed up several miles, to Interstate 465, as of 6:45 p.m. Westbound traffic was also affected, as one lane was blocked by emergency crews.

Indiana State Police said no one was injured when the semi trailer loaded with potatoes caught fire. At one point, trees near the roadway also caught fire, ISP said.

As of about 8:15 p.m., INDOT traffic cameras showed traffic in both directions still restricted. INDOT said via Twitter that it expected traffic restrictions to be in place for hours.
