Terre Haute Utility Audit Finds More Missing Money

Last updated on Thursday, September 15, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A final audit report on West Terre Haute’s water and sewer utilities finds an additional $28,000 dollars should be repaid to those accounts.

Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Vickie Ashburn was arrested in June after a preliminary audit found $362,000 dollars missing.

The State Board of Accounts now says Ashburn's boss, Clerk-Treasurer Melody Buchanan, didn't supply proper documentation for $19,000 dollars in credit card charges.

The audit also says there's $9,000 dollars more missing from utility accounts than originally thought, mainly because the final report covers an additional four months.

Attorney General Greg Zoeller asked a court in June to freeze the assets of both women and another clerk. Only Ashburn faces criminal charges.
