(SPENCER) - An Owen County soldier, who joined the Army because of the attacks on 9/11 was killed while serving in Afghanistan.
Family members say Private Brett Wood of Spencer, died Friday in a roadside bombing.
This was the second roadside bombing the 19 year-old was a had been in, while serving.
He had returned to Afghanistan in April after recovering from the first bombing.
Sunday night, friends set up a memorial in Wood's honor. No funeral arrangements have been made.
Private Wood's body is to be returned to the United States today. His brother, Nikk Wood -- who joined the military at the same time at Brett -- will accompany his body home.
