(INDIANPOLIS) - The Agriculture Trade Mission announced by Lt. Governor Becky Skillman continues this week.
Lt. Governor Skillman will not participate in this portion of the trade mission but has assigned the Indiana State Department Of Agriculture to lead the Agriculture, Trade And Community Development Mission to China from September 17th through the 21st. The majority of the delegation will then join Skillman in Japan this week.
"International markets continue to offer important opportunities for Indiana, especially in agriculture," said Gina Sheets, ISDA Director of Economic Development. "This trip will continue to build the strong relations we have with the Zhejiang government."
The China mission will focus on increasing exports of Indiana agricultural products, attracting new agricultural investment into Indiana and developing closer cultural ties between the rural communities of Indiana and our sister state, the Zhejiang province. Objectives for the China 2011 ISDA Trade Mission:
• Continue building relationships between Indiana and the Zhejiang provincial government.
• Establish plans for next year's 25th anniversary commemoration of our sister-state relationship with Zhejiang.
• Help develop sister-city relationships for Indiana communities
• Increase Indiana's agricultural exports to China.
• Share information on Indiana and attract agricultural investment to the state.
• Develop deep cultural partnerships between Indiana and Zhejiang in the form of global education initiatives and community-to-community exchanges.
The delegation is led by David Terrell, Chief Of Staff for Lt. Governor Becky Skillman and Gina Sheets, director of Economic Development For ISDA and will include 18 representatives from agriculture, community and economic development. No tax dollars were used to fund the trade mission.
"We look forward to sitting down with old friends from previous missions," said Terrell. "These meetings further business relations that can lead to creating more jobs and market share for Indiana."
