Researchers Found New Way To Find Cancer

Last updated on Tuesday, September 20, 2011

(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Purdue University researchers have found a new way to pinpoint cancer cells. Purdue Professor Of Chemistry, Dr. Philip Stewart Low, says the technique takes advantage of cancer cells’ appetite for folic acid.

The vitamin is combined with a fluorescent dye to help identity ovarian cancer cells during surgery.

The procedure allows surgeons to see malignant cells 30-times smaller than what was previously possible.
