(VEVAY) - Police destroyed 25,741 marijuana plants, a state record for a single outdoor growing operation, in Switzerland County.
The marijuana, which police said had a street value of at least $41.6 million to $51.4 million, was growing on 10 plots that police said they think were part of a single operation.
The eradication began about two weeks ago when Indiana Conservation Officers found a large plot of marijuana on Green Valley Road off Ind. 56 in Switzerland County and eradicated 864 plants from that plot.
Spotters later found several other plots in the area. On Thursday, state troopers, Switzerland County Sheriff's Department deputies and officers from the Vevay Police Department eradicated more than 3,700 plants. By the end of the day Saturday, the total eradicated for the three-day operation was 24,877 plants.
When added to the 864 plants eradicated two weeks earlier by conservation officers, the total number of plants was 25,741, an Indiana record for a single outdoor growing operation.
Police do not have any suspects in the case.
